Remarkably in a month which traditional averages high temperatures of just under 36 degrees, Katherine is in line for a string of 42 degree days.
The Bureau of Meteorology this morning says Katherine will reach 40 degrees today, 42 degrees tomorrow and then 42 degree days right through to the end of the forecast period on Monday.
Even on Saturday, carols night, the temperature is expected to peak at 42 and only fall to 28 at night.
After last month's record heatwave, Katherine is a little tired of heat records but another looms.
In the almost half century of records at Tindal, the hottest December day was 41.6 degrees back in 2006.
The people at the bureau seem excited about the chance for a record at Katherine as they tweeted about the chance today
One record we missed was the hottest ever night, again a Tindal record.
It came on November 22 when the temperature fell to just 29.5 degrees, beating the old record of 29.3 from 1988.
No surprise, Tindal weather station also recorded the highest average temperature for November ever with 33 degrees.
Oh, and the long term average rainfall for December in Katherine is 231mm so where have a ways to go yet.
