Our heatwave is forecast to continue right through the week and into next week.
The Bureau of Meteorology says Katherine can expect a run of 42 degree days, with a chance of rain on Wednesday.
The final official day of school for most local schools is Friday.
With a total of 43.1 degrees on Friday, Tindal easily surpassed its old record for December heat.
But as weather watcher Jacci Ingham informed us on Friday, it was a record for Tindal but did not erase the December record at Katherine council which is 43.3°C.
Maximum temperatures have been about five degrees hotter than average.
