Commander Hebb has been promoted to be one of the NT's new Assistant Commissioners.
His role is oversee regional police and emergency services resources.
He spent just over a year running the police force's Northern Command before being promoted and taking up office in Darwin.
The veteran policeman took over the reins in Katherine from Matt Hollamby in September 2018.
An avid long-distance runner, Assistant Commissioner Hebb has held many positions within the NT Police including Police Chief of Staff, Darwin Watch Commander and Officer in Charge of the Darwin Police Station.
He was Superintendent for the Remote Policing Command, which saw him overseeing the Police Air Wing and the Community Engagement Police Officer Program.
Katherine-born Jamie Chalker took over the top job late last year as Chief Commissioner following the recruitment of Reece Kershaw to the Australian Federal Police.
Assistant Commissioner Hebb told Katherine Times several experienced police were available to act as commanders of the northern region until a permanent replacement was found.
