One of those crazy stunts has already come their way in the form of a stupid motorbike rider travelling away from Darwin on Tiger Brennan on Saturday morning.

Police claim the driver was travelling at 191kmh in the 100kmh zone.

The 24-year-old male has been charged with dangerous riding.

Police said about 12.30am on Saturday, Darwin Traffic Operations apprehended a 24-year-old male riding a motorcycle traveling outbound on Tiger Brennan Drive.

Acting Commander Neil Hayes from the Road Policing Command said "The message is obviously not getting through to those using our roads irresponsibility. Police also apprehended a number of drink drivers over the weekend.

"It's unfortunate to see people being so reckless with their lives and not thinking of the consequences they have on those around them. This includes emergency workers who attend the scenes of horrific crashes, such as this could have been.

"Despite the festive season being over, Police remain focused on targeting the fatal five. Friday 24 January 2020 marks road safety's National Day of Action, were Police across the nation will be heavily focussing on drink and drug driving. You can expect to be breath tested."

In another crime on the weekend, this one in Palmerston, an elderly woman who had been shopping was allegedly assaulted in the car park.

Police said shortly before 2pm on Sunday, a 77-year-old female suffered facial injuries after allegedly being threatened with a knife and then punched outside a Palmerston shopping venue.

Officers from Palmerston Police Station responded.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident will summons an 11-year-old female from Moulden to appear at the Darwin Youth Court in February charged with one count of, aggravated assault with intent to steal.
