EXPRESSIONS of interest are being sought on 200 hectares (494 acres) of land located within the Douglas Daly Research Farm, about two hours from Darwin.

Offered by the Northern Territory Land Corporation, the land is described as being suitable for a range of crops including annual or perennial horticulture, peanuts, hemps, grains, ginger, forage crops, improved pasture and turf production.
NTLC project officer Nicole Paas said the corporation had been working with the NT Farmers Association to assess the suitability, accessibility and the commercialisation potential of current agricultural land releases across the NT, such as at Douglas Daly, and future agricultural land releases planned at Larrimah.
"Douglas Daly Research Farm research and other activities will continue to operate and take place at DDRF on the 2900ha land which is not included under this licence," Ms Paas said.
"The release of this agricultural land will provide an opportunity for suitably qualified Territory or interstate entities to expand crop production in the Douglas Daly region from 2020, and will develop the NT's agribusiness sector."
NT Farmers chief executive officer Paul Burke said it was an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start, or expand, their agricultural interests in the NT.
"One of the biggest challenges we have to agricultural development in the NT is access to land that is suitable for broadacre cropping activities," Mr Burke said.
"The Douglas Daly region has an established reputation for farming enterprises and there is suitable access to water and some onsite infrastructure already available.
"It presents an exciting opportunity for someone to come in and be set up and ready to go by the 2020 dry season."
The 200ha represents about 6pc of the under-utilised land within the 3100ha of the Douglas Daly Research Farm.
