The St Marys' team agreed to travel to Katherine to provide a final home game of the season which was welcomed by local footy supporters.
Final scores: Big River Hawks 2.2 (14) lost to St Marys 16.15 (111).
With temperatures nudging 40 degrees and the high humidity, it was challenging day for sport for all players.
It was the final game of the home and away season for the wet season competition.
St Marys will now enjoy the privilege of finishing on top of the ladder for the finals series.
It was only the Hawks' second home game of the season in a topsey-turvey season for the Big River Hawks.
The boys' team was unable to build any momentum by being to keep the same players out on the Darwin grounds and struggle to a full team most weekends.
Unfortunately, the challenge of travelling each week proved too much for the fledgling women's premier league team and the Hawks' Under 18s girls who were forced to withdraw from the competition after a number of forfeits. Beau Tedcastle from St Marys put on another goalkicking display with 11 goals for the game.
St Marys kicked four goals in each quarter at Nitmiluk oval before a disappointing crowd while the Hawks kicked a goal in the second and fourth quarters.
Many believe the season is made much more difficult for local sides by being asked to travel to Darwin each week to play, with only two home games in the draw this year.
AFLNT manager of Community Football, Emily Wastle-Hopkins said AFLNT would meet with the Big River Hawks to plan for the future. "We are planning to get down to Katherine in the coming weeks so we will meet with the club."
