The restructure will take effect from February 24 when Murray Smalpage APM joins Northern Territory Police as Deputy Commissioner, People, Crime and Capability.
Mr Smalpage joins Deputy Commissioner, Territory Operations and Road Safety, Michael Murphy in the deputy role.
Each will have two Assistant Commissioners who will in turn each have two Commanders.
Former Northern Command boss, Michael Hebb who was based in Katherine, has been promoted to be one of the NT's new Assistant Commissioners.
His role is oversee regional police and emergency services resources.
The restructure includes:
Alcohol Policing Unit duties and reporting will now be incorporated into Darwin and Social Order Division.
The Social Order Unit will continue to be operating from Nightcliff at this time, and will be reporting through Darwin and Road Policing Command.
Territory Relief Pool members will return to fixed locations. Relief arrangements will continue for the short term and a number of consultative meetings will occur to establish the relief obligation being shared across all police portfolios into the future.
Road Policing will be incorporated into Southern, Northern and Darwin Commands.
The other key change is the introduction of the Assistant Commissioner for People and Cultural Reform. This will ensure the focus on staff and providing the reform the NT police force needs to be able to best perform the obligations placed upon it.
Commissioner Chalker says Project 2030 - Back to Basics To Set Our Future, is intended to make sure the frontline is fully supported and resourced.
"This as an important body of work to establish a stable structure that focuses on what we are tasked to do and also focuses importantly on our people."
"To serve and protect our community I need to ensure we operate under a structure that will provide members with the necessary level of support, tools and training to do their jobs."
Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services continue to work on their new structure which will be finalised in the near future.
