The flypast is being conducted as part of the 78th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin Commemorative Service.

The F/A-18A/B Classic Hornets will track in formation from north to south, conducting a single pass over The Cenotaph, Bicentennial Park, Esplanade at 10.40am.

The formation will fly at a height of about 76 metres and at a speed of up to 850kmh before returning to Tindal.

On February 19, 1942, Darwin was bombed by two separate Japanese air raids, becoming the largest single attack ever mounted by a foreign power on Australia.

Hundreds of servicemen and civilians lost their lives, and countless others were injured.

Each year, Australia comes together to pay tribute and remember the service and sacrifice of the men and women who endured and who were lost.
