On a day the Bureau of Meteorology said 80mm was possible for Katherine from the impact of ex-TC Esther, it has been slow to show much promise.
The same as yesterday, the first decent rain came around 2.30am but according to the radar, the former cyclone is causing a series of storms rather than a steady downpour most are hoping for.
The bureau has issued a storm warning for the western Carpentaria and northwest Barkly Districts, extending to the eastern Gregory District this afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Elliott, Kalkarindji, Larrimah, Daly Waters, Top Springs, Timber Creek, Yarralin and Daguragu.
The bureau said 24 hour rainfall totals of 128mm was recorded at Nutwood Downs and 103.2mm was observed at Merlin Mine to 9am Wednesday.
