Falls of more than 100mm has been recorded in many areas from the impact of ex TC Esther over the past two days and more rain is expected today.
The Low Level Crossing in Katherine is flooded and closed.
The tropical low dumped big rains right across the region with more than 140mm around Mataranka and 150mm across two days in the Edith Farms area.
The big rain continued in the catchment area of the Katherine River with huge totals as well in the Nitmiluk National Park.
Batchelor had 170mm yesterday with 70mm in Daly Waters and 138mm at Victoria River Downs.
The rain has not penetrated far enough south in the Barkly yet with Tennant Creek missing out so far.
There are some early predictions that ex cyclone Esther may reverse on her tracks after crossing to WA and come back into the NT to impact Tennant Creek in the middle of next week.
Early this morning, the tropical low was located about 90km north northeast of Victoria River Downs.
