In the first fine handed out in the Territory, police this week issued an infringement notice to a 52-year old Darwin man for failing to abide by the directions of the Chief Health Officer.
The man returned from overseas on March 23 and was subject to a 14-days self-quarantine order.
The infringement penalty is $1099.
NT Police and Environmental Health Officers supported by the Australian Defence Force are ensuring Territorians are complying with self-isolation and self-quarantine arrangements.
Compliance checks will also ensure overseas and interstate arrivals to the Territory are adhering to their 14 day self-quarantine period as explained and committed to upon arrival into the Territory.

The public can be assured that fines will be issued to anyone not respecting the community and doing the right thing, a government spokesman said.

Forced quarantine is if the person has arrived in the Territory:
After midnight today - they must spend 14 days in a hotel nominated and paid for by the Northern Territory Government.
After midnight on Friday - they must spend 14 days in a hotel nominated by the Northern Territory Government, paid for by the traveller.
