Former Katherine Town Council acting CEO Ian McGill was yesterday named the new chair of the NT Heritage Council.

Most recently Mr McGill was acting CEO in Katherine after the departure of Rob Jennings and the recent arrival of Ian Bodill.
Mr McGill was CEO of Darwin City Council for 11 years, and has strong management experience in both government and non-government sectors.
Mr McGill has spent the last 40 years as a CEO or in senior management positions and has held and continues to hold many committee and board positions.
His experience with Melbourne City Council and a range of local councils in rural Victorian and NT communities led to senior and executive positions in Katherine, Alice Springs and Darwin City Councils.
Mr McGill has been involved with various organisations including the NT Racing Commission, NT Racing Appeals Tribunal, the NT Employment and Training Authority, various school councils, the Tiwi Bombers NTFL football club, the Northern Territory Polocrosse Association and numerous other community and arts organisations.
Tourism, Sport and Culture Minister Lauren Moss said: "Allan has extensive management experience across various sectors and will provide a valuable contribution to the Council.
"Protecting the Territory's heritage is important now and for future generations. The Heritage Council provides a crucial role in the conservation of the Territory's unique natural and cultural heritage."
