Katherine Times has been notified by several residents they were especially keen to attend the May meeting as a result of internal strife at the council.
Council on Friday issued a statement saying it was working to heal rifts after Alderman Matt Hurley said he would sue for discrimination after an about face on deputy mayoral rotation policy.
"The main focus was on improving the organisational culture, consolidate as a team and to focus on completing the many projects that have formed a bottleneck due to a variety of reasons," Mayor Fay Miller said in the statement which followed a Tuesday meeting.
Council today advised the May meeting on Tuesday night would again be closed in accordance with current social distancing regulations.
Other NT councils are planning to hold their May meetings online, in the case of Litchfield via Zoom where ratepayers can dial in.
Council says it will re-open meetings to the public from June 5.
The council pointed to the NT Government's three-stage roadmap with the third stage to kick off from June 5 which allow large public gatherings.
"In the meantime, council encourages the community to submit their open forum questions and council will endeavor to address these questions during the general business section of the council meeting," a council spokeswoman said today.
That question form can be accessed here.
People can also submit questions by email to records@ktc.nt.gov.au or hand in written submissions to the Civic Centre.
Submissions need to be received by Monday by the close of business.
Council's new Facebook livestream facilities are now available from its Facebook page from 6pm on Tuesday, or on the council website the following day
"Katherine Town Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause and we look forward to the community participating in future council meetings and the reconvening of the monthly Open Forums."
