A memorial service for young Brettson is being organised for Katherine on Friday, June 26.
It comes as police have charged the driver of the ute and caravan which contained Brettson and eight other children on Edith Farms Road on Sunday.
Police last night said the eight-year-old fell from the door of the caravan after it swung open on the road.
He suffered serious injuries from the fall and was taken to Katherine Hospital where he later died.
Police said the 31-year-old Katherine man was driving a utility towing a caravan and travelling with nine children.
"A number of the children were unrestrained including four children travelling inside the caravan," the police spokesman said.
"While in motion, the caravan door opened and the eight-year-old boy fell out and onto the roadway, suffering critical injuries that resulted in his death."
Major Crash, assisted by local detectives, continue to investigate the incident.
The man will appear in the Katherine Local Court on Monday, August 10.
The Katherine community has been rocked a series of unrelated deaths over the past few weeks.
But all three deaths involved young people - a four-month-old baby girl, an eight-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl.
The latest tragedy occurred about noon on Sunday.
Meanwhile, The NT's Children's Commissioner has confirmed her office is looking into the death of a baby girl in Katherine the week before, on June 7.
It has emerged the baby's mother, a 21-year-old, had been taken into police custody for causing a disturbance a few hours before the baby's death.
"The children's commissioner is aware of the tragic death of the baby in Katherine and received a briefing on Wednesday morning," commissioner Colleen Gwynne said in a statement on Friday.
"The commissioner has formally requested further information and is undertaking preliminary enquiries including a review of family history and interactions with services."
NT Police said on Wednesday the death of the four-month-old was not being considered suspicious although it was awaiting an autopsy and was continuing investigations.
"A 21-year-old woman had been taken into police custody before the child's death was reported to police," police have confirmed.
Also, police are also investigating the death of 14-year-old girl at "a community" in the Roper Gulf region.
The body of the teen girl was located last Wednesday afternoon.
That death is also not being treated as suspicious by police.
The Gofundme page has been established by Brett Payne and has already received more than $7000 in pledges.
"The family of Brettson Payne have suffered a loss beyond words with the sudden tragic passing of our beautiful little man," the campaign reads.
"Our hearts are breaking for our son and brother. We are comforted by the great warmth and generosity of family and the Katherine community.
"Our beautiful boy was loved by so many in Katherine and in Kakadu. He was a warm and cheeky spirit who loved life and family, was devoted to fishing and loved his sport and starry nights."
