Police are still trying to piece together what caused the explosion which resulted in the death of a 63-year-old woman near Larrimah.
The woman was badly burned in the vehicle fire on the Stuart Highway on Friday and passed away yesterday at Royal Darwin Hospital from her injuries.
About 12:30pm on Friday, police and medical staff from the Mataranka Clinic responded to a report that a female had suffered serious burns.
A fire had apparently ignited in the cargo space of a Holden Commodore utility.
Police believe the woman was traveling in the open space of the utility at the time of the fire.
She was later airlifted by CareFlight from Daly Waters.
