A popular Katherine tourist attraction and outdoor restaurant, Marksie's Stockman's Camp Tucker Night, has been named in the 2020 Travelers' Choice awards.
Marksie's on Gorge Road was an award winner for restaurants based on people's glowing reviews on the world's largest online travel platform Tripadvisor.
Before the changes caused by the pandemic, award winners are known for consistently receiving great traveler/diner feedback, placing them in the top 10 per cent of hospitality businesses around the globe.
It has been a big year for Marksie's after winning a Brolga tourism award last year for the Department Trade Business Innovation Business Growth.
Plaudits which have been 20 years in the making.
Marksie has been holding these Camp Tucker nights for 20 years in Katherine and every year it has got better and better, says Penny Byrne from Marksie's.
"This is the fourth year we have been Top Restaurant in the whole Top End."
"Winners of the 2020 Travelers' Choice Awards should be proud of this distinguished recognition," said Kanika Soni, chief commercial officer at Tripadvisor.
"Although it's been a challenging year for travel and hospitality, we want to celebrate our partners' achievements. Award winners are beloved for their exceptional service and quality. Not only are these winners well deserving, they are also a great source of inspiration for travelers/diners as the world begins to venture out again."
Reviewers loved dining under the stars by the campfire, on a traditional best beef stew, full of vegies and flavoured with about 12 different bush herbs and spices to send your taste buds on a wild ride.
"Our damper is the tastiest with bush flavours and cheese top. Follow this with fluffy light gem scones, Rainforest plum jam and cream, and gum leaf billy tea. Be entertained by bush stories that will have you in fits, and Marksie will share some of his bush tricks. A fun night shared with some cute baby wallabies."
Because of the pandemic, Marksie's is open with Thursdays and Saturdays this year. Bookings essential. See their website for more information.
