The bye is to make way for the "Dreamtime" game in Darwin between Melbourne rivals Richmond and Essendon.
AFL Northern Territory today announced changes to the BRFL fixture, with a general bye to take place on the weekend of August 21 to accommodate for the recently announced AFL matches in Darwin.
The Gold Coast Suns will play Carlton in a Friday night match at TIO Stadium.
AFLNT has confirmed the dates and times for the remaining fixtures in the 2020 BRFL season.
Round 7 will be played this weekend and round 8 on August 14 before the bye.
The season will resume with the No More Round on Saturday, August 29.
The Doug Kelly Medal will now be awarded on September 20 in this shortened season followed by the BRFL grand final on September 26.
AFLNT regional development manager for Katherine, Gavin May, said there has been great interest from the BRFL clubs and community to travel to Darwin for the Dreamtime game, leading to the decision to implement a league-wide bye on the corresponding weekend.
"This is a special occasion that may never return to the NT again and I certainly don't want to stand in the way of people getting the opportunity to attend this match," Mr May said.
With just four rounds left to be played in the BRFL season, the reigning premiers, the Katherine Camels, sit atop the ladder one win ahead of the Ngukurr Bulldogs and Northern Walpiri Swans.
Tindal currently lead the BRFL women's competition one win ahead of the Arnhem Crows and Katherine South.
Mr May highlighted the quality of football being played this season in the BRFL.
"We have had a great start to our season with great matches in both the men and women's competition. The standard of footy has been high, as has the umpiring, and both competitions are still wide open."
AFLNT would like to remind supporters, players, coaches, and volunteers to follow the COVID health and safety protocols when attending games.
Entry prices for BRFL games: $7 for adults, $2 for children aged 15 years and under. Free for children aged 3 years and under.
