While the program will officially launch for Get Online Week in October, they have already begun in a small way by teaching three seniors to create their own Facebook pages.
Working to a vision of free, user-guided weekly literacy classes, the Rotary Club is now focused on gathering the necessary resources.
The first and most important step in that process has been assembling an appropriate space.
"Our plans for starting a computer club that will be open for anyone who wants to learn to be digitally aware are proceeding well," Rotary Club secretary Chris Dixon said.
"Rotary will be providing the venue, but the kiosk at the park was in a very sorry state.
"But thanks to some hard work by volunteers and very generous businesses, the kiosk is transforming into a training room.
"James Dixon, Jeremy Dixon and Nargie Zuyterleaf very generously demolished the old internal infrastructure, cleaned and repainted the walls.
"1Set Construction subcontracted Talia Painting and covered the cost for cleaning and repainting the ceiling.
"Jeffrey Usher at Custom Cabinets has generously agreed to install a new kitchen at no cost. We are applying for grants to get the floor tiled and to get the electrical system rewired."
The program will also benefit from 10 pre-loved laptops from Charles Darwin University, and members will raise funds from a barbecue at upcoming Katherine Speedway events.
"We needed operating capital, as any money that Rotary earns is immediately given to needy causes," Mr Dixon said.
"So we needed to get some money to buy materials for this project. Enormous thanks to Katherine Speedway for inviting us to cook steak and sausage sandwiches at the 2020 Speedway events.
"And a huge thanks to Jason at Town and Country Butchers for providing the very best steak at cost price.
"Grateful thanks to Katherine Fruit and Veg for the onions, Stuart Hotel for the ice and Stormys for a $50 dinner voucher that was won by the Keek family at the last meeting.
"We have plans for delivering a wide range of courses to as wide a range of the community as need to be digitally aware.
"More details of our opening event will be made available as soon as we have finalised them," he said.
