Katherine can expect a run of 39 degree days at the end of this week, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
After successive total fire ban days last week, the fire danger weather is upon us as well.
After an August hot weather record on the 20th (37.8 degrees), August has also been more than two degrees hotter than average which is no surprise to most.
Minimum temperatures have also been about two degrees hotter than usual.
September's average heat is 35.8 degrees with 20 degree minimums but that is be tested already.
The bureau says we can expect 36 degrees today and 37 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday before climbing to 38 on Thursday and 39 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Today is expected to be the windiest day of the week.
Traditionally, little rain is expected in Katherine until October.
In recent years Katherine has broken all sorts of heat records, with a heatwave lasting almost a month of above 40 degree days last October/November.
History also records Katherine having suffered two of its poorest wet seasons on record as well.
Bureau forecasts of a developing La Nina "wetter influence" on the wet season has already been welcomed.
