NT Government officials said borders would be opened to residents from the Greater Sydney area in four weeks' time, if Sydney's COVID-19 case numbers remain low.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner because of the sustained downward trend in new cases in Sydney the hotspot declaration will be removed on Friday, October 9.
"We will no hesitate to reinstate that declaration if circumstances should change."
Restrictions may be dropped for rural Victoria soon as well, Chief Health Officer Dr Hugh Heggie said.
"There is a chance that coronavirus will come, complacency is the killer," Mr Gunner said today.
"There is a risk, but we are ready."
