A new shade structure, costing $272,000, has been installed.
Katherine Town Council made the decision to remove the previous shade sail early last year due to ongoing vandalism.
The installation included the conversion to hard structured covers, mirroring the existing playground space which will provide additional sun safety.
Parents have long complained about the missing shade rendered play equipment unusable because they scorched their children.
The work included the demolition of the old shade sail posts and installation of the new structure.
Katherine Construction Pty Ltd was awarded the job.
The Adventure Play Park reopened at 7am.
"It is wonderful to have this facility open in time for the school holidays. We hope this allows for even more use of the playground for many years to come," Acting Mayor Peter Gazey said.
