Delivered by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation's Good Sports team, in conjunction with the Northern Territory Sporting Integrity Unit, the community event on Tuesday, October 13 will also cover:
- What local services and resources are available to support community sporting clubs and their members
- The benefits of having alcohol and other drugs policies
- Practical steps for clubs to manage potential drug-related incidents
"The upcoming forum will enable community sporting club representatives to come together, build networks in the local area, and receive the information and tailored support they need to address potential issues around alcohol and drugs that may arise," Alcohol and Drug Foundation's NT manager Sally Underdown said.
The Alcohol and Drug Foundation's Good Sports program, is Australia's largest preventative health initiative in community sport, working with nearly 10,000 clubs across the nation.
"Good Sports is proud to be working with more than 200 community sporting clubs across the Territory," Ms Underdown said.
"Sporting clubs are the beating heart of many communities and can play a vital role in preventing and reducing alcohol and other drug-related harms," Ms Underdown said.
University Azzurri FC was the Northern Territory's first sports club to develop an illegal drugs policy through the Good Sports Tackling Illegal Drugs program.
"Prevention is always the priority, and our club's philosophy is that education is the key to minimising the risk of illegal drugs in the community, so we've developed a robust policy framework and undertaken an awareness campaign to highlight our stance on illegal drug use and how we deal with it should the need arise," club president John Kassaras said.
The Good Sports Forum will run on Tuesday, October 13 between 6pm-7.30pm at the Katherine Civic Centre.
