EVERYDAY Australians are preparing to hit Garage Sale Trail on November 21 and 22 with plenty of opportunities to nab a bargain - all in time for Christmas.
With more people in need of a little extra cash this year, the national sustainability event has proven to be a potential money-making extravaganza for seller and buyers alike.
2020 Garage Sale Trail Ambassador Kirra Thomas said this year's event will be bigger than ever after organisers announced sales would also be available online.
"People who don't go to garage sales often, don't realise the quality of stuff you can find," Kirra said, adding she frequently came across new or unused skin care, perfume, toys and clothing.
"Close to Christmas, people will have a big clean out and they'll sell old gifts that they never used - and so the cycle continues." Using online platforms like Instagram and eBay, Kirra (@theresellingenthusiast) said she is able to resell particular items at a slightly higher price.
"I share information about how to resell used and new items, which I've picked up at garage sales and op shops, online and I give people tips on how they can make money doing what I'm doing."
Kirra said the Garage Sale Trail, now in its 10th year, was the perfect opportunity to make a little bit of money before the holidays. "It's my favourite weekend of the whole year."
Going official with her online reselling business at the start of the year, Kirra said the ethos of the annual sale is at the heart of her reselling journey.
"Climate change is something that we can't hide from, it's happening, and I think people are becoming more and more passionate about the environment and what we consume.
"Buying second hand means you're not consuming from those bigger chains and that piece of clothing you buy at a sale is lasting longer than if it were simply thrown out," she said, proudly adding that her favourite pair of shoes were thrifted.
"I wear them everyday - they're still going strong and they're older than me."
The Adelaide-based entrepreneur said hampers were also an easy gift option for Christmas, with attendees able to pick up multiple items from one sale.
"You can find a bunch of smaller things and for all different age groups too."
Kirra said planning your Garage Sale Trail map was a crucial part of the annual event. "If you're wanting to get the most out of your day, you have to start early and plan your route so you're ready to go," she said.
With more than 10,000 garage sales expected to be run online and in real life across the country, there is sure to be something special for every bargain-hunter.
