Directed by Danish filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg - the second half of the duo that sparked the Dogme 95 filmmaking movement, Another Round - a tragicomedy - looks at whether alcohol can reignite the spark of youth.
Katherine Film Society committee member Brendan Penzer said the film - selected by the committee based on its performance on the festival circuit - is particularly pertinent to Katherine.
"The subject matter of the film is based around alcohol consumption - which is quite interesting here because quite a lot of our culture is based around alcohol," Mr Penzer said.
"The characters start with this premise that humans are born with a blood alcohol level 0.05 percent too low... and if we maintained a higher level we'd function better as humans.
"Without seeing the film, it's pretty clear that theory unravels and goes from novel to disruptive."
Another Round stars Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang, Lars Ranthe, Maria Bonnevie and Susse Wold, Another Round was selected as the Danish entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.
It was also the London Film Critics' Circle 2021 Foreign Language Film of the Year and BFI London Film Festival's 2020 Best Film.
Peter Bradshaw, the Guardian's film critic, gave Another Round an enviable review and 3/5 stars.
"A reunion between director Thomas Vinterberg and his star of the 2012 drama The Hunt is a flippant and very, very drunken story of an unusual experiment," he said.
While Vulture critic, Bilge Ebiri, says Another Round is "a film marked by unspeakable personal tragedy for Vinterberg".
And, "it is not, believe it or not, a searing drama about addiction, but rather an endearingly funny and human picture about coming to terms with life," she said.
Another Round is showing at Katherine STAR Cinema on Thursday at 6.30pm for a 7pm film start.
Tickets cost $12 for members and $16 for non-members.
Membership to the Katherine Film Society is just $15 for the year and provides $4 off each film society movie.
