Town of Daly Water on flood watch - no evacuation order yet

About 330 residents of the Daly River community have been put on flood watch as torrential rain continues to fall over the Daly River catchment.
Northern Territory Police are preparing for a possible flood event which could see residents evacuated by bus to Darwin.
Additional police have been sent to the community and the Northern Territory Emergency Service has sent three additional boats to help move people in low-lying areas.
The Bureau of Meteorology on Tuesday issued a moderate flood warning for the region following widespread rainfall totals of up to 300mm across the region.
The Bureau issued its fourth flood warning today at 3.30pm stating moderate flooding is likely along the Lower Daly River.
The water level at the Daly River Police Station is likely to exceed the moderate flood level of 13.10 metres on Thursday night.
Incident Controller Commander Janelle Tonkin said police have not yet issued an an evacuation order, but planning is underway in the case that situation changes.
"The community is experienced with flood preparation and know what to do if needed," she said.
"There is no request or requirement for residents to leave the community at this time.
"That said, planning is well under way if the situation changes and the predicted river height passes that threshold."
According to NT Police, the river reached 13.7 metres in 2014, but did not result in an evacuation. However, at that height, minor flooding of houses is a possibility.
In the event an evacuation is required, residents will be bussed into Darwin where they will be accommodated in an evacuation centre at Foskey's Pavilion at the Darwin Showgrounds.
