Rachel Jay and Jacqui Paull took to the stage in front of a crowd of screaming primary school students and shaved their heads for the World's Greatest Shave cause.

Mrs Paull said her initial feeling with a lighter head was "fresh" as she stepped off the stage.

"It actually feels quite cool, bit scary to look at," Mrs Paull said.

The pair were inspired by the Bryant family, who found out their three-year-old son had leukemia last year.

The family's mother Anica Bryant is a pre-school teacher at KSPS, but is now living in Adelaide where her sick son receives treatment.

The fundraiser collected $5613 which will go towards vital cancer research.

Mrs Paull said she had planned to shave her head for the cause in previous years, but the diagnosis of her colleague's son made it a priority.

"It's something that's always been close to my heart," Mrs Paull said.

"With Anica's family... with that happening in our community I said 'yeah, I can do it this year'."

The crowd of young onlookers were visibly excited as they saw the pair displaying their new look.

Mrs Paull said the shave was "good fun" but stressed how serious the cause behind their effort is.

"I'm just grateful that people donated."

This comes off the back of the school community already gathering about $3000 for the Bryant family at previous fundraisers.

Mrs Paull said the community spirit and generosity is impressive.

"It's awesome, Katherine's a great community like that, they always get behind people in need," she said.

The pair thanked local hairdresser Natalie Angove who shaved their heads.
