John Zelley quit KTC last week, due to work commitments forcing him to relocate to Darwin.
KTC said Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for an Alderman position:
- Be eligible under section 46 of the Local Government Act.
- Be enrolled to vote in the relevant ward (Municipality of Katherine).
- Provide a statement of no more than one page outlining why you want to be a Council member and the qualities you would contribute to the Council.
Expressions of interests will close on April 15, current elected council members will elect the new alderman via popular vote at the April council meeting, and the successful candidate will start one week later.
The successful candidate will be an Alderman of the Katherine Town Council for the remainder of this term, ending in August when the next election is due to be held.
This is the second vacancy KTC has been forced to fill this year, after Kym Henderson was selected to replace Lis Clark as alderman in January.
Ms Clark's position was left vacant after she was elected mayor, replacing the retiring Fay Miller.
Interested candidates are asked to send their Expression of Interest to the CEO through post; 24 Stuart Highway, Katherine 0850, NT, the Council website or email ceo@ktc.nt.gov.au.
