Located at 24 Crawford St, the centre will host its grand opening on Saturday, May 29 from 5pm.
The opening showcases a few examples of the possibilities that can be had in the huge 60M x 40M space, including not just indoor sports such as cricket, volleyball, netball and soccer, but also all levels of community engagement, even birthdays and functions.
Keep an eye out for soon-to-come school holiday programmes, after school activities and various group fitness classes for all ages and abilities.
The facility incorporates two courts with complete nets, one open court, outdoor dining areas and gardens.
KCISC directors, Poppy Skudder and Nicole Thomson, describe the centre as "a place for the entire community to socialise and be active".
Nicole said she was strongly encouraged to re-open the centre "after receiving so much support from facility owners, Ned and Dot Kelly, friends and family and the wider business community.
"It really was an opportunity that couldn't be turned down. It has so much potential not only as a sports centre but a place for complete community engagement," she added.
In its' former life, Katherine Indoor Sports Centre boasted up to 40 cricket teams with players competing at state and national levels.
The popular social hangout branched out to incorporate indoor netball and volleyball and was open until late in the evening when overzealous participants refused to go home.
A happy and inclusive environment, the centre ran junior and inter school competitions.
Trophies and photo memorabilia still line the walls of the centre and many long term residents can still spot familiar names and faces.
The grand opening begins with a social game of cricket and volleyball followed by soccer and netball, interspersed with badminton for those keen to have a hit.
Visitors are encouraged to sign up on the day and try their hand at any of the games.
Food and drinks will be available to purchase from the kiosk located inside the building.
