This year the theme for Katherine's Pride Festival is hope - a great choice given the tough 2020 and 2021 so far for many. Free events include the opening celebration with canapes and entertainment, Katherine Pride Story Time, discussion forums and Pride Picnic Day. Ticketed events include Dine with Pride at local restaurant Kumbidgee, Drag Queen Bingo at the Katherine Country Club and the iconic THROB nightclub - Katherine-style - at GYRACC. Katherine Beat festival - Tides
Next week
Get on down to the Lindsay Street Complex for the Katherine Beat Festival, now in its sixth year. It will feature staff, primary and middle-school students from Katherine, Mataranka, Ngukurr, Douglas Daley, Yarralin and East Kimberley College. There will be soloists, hosts, choirs, dance groups and concert bands. It's set to be a big night, with more than 120 students stepping into the spotlight. You've got four hours - how many laps can you complete? That's the challenge for anybody who signs up for this cross country mountain biking challenge. Barunga Festival
This weekend
It's a festival that showcases Indigenous arts and culture. Up to 4000 people head along to camp out and soak up the music, sport and arts at this jam-packed three-day event over the June long weekend. On the line-up for this year are the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, Manuel Dhurrkay, Ripple Effect, Don Nunggarlu, Jason Gurruwiwi and Johnno Yunupingu. On the Friday what is being billed as the "Southern Hemisphere's Biggest Community Dance Party" will kick off, featuring traditional dancers from a host of areas.
