The Katherine Times recently has not had a member on the ground so I have been in conversations on a range of issues with Juanita and Jay-Anna who have been extremely helpful. If there is anyone out there that is getting married or has a special birthday of significance you could get in contact with the girls to add even more to the local feel of the paper again.
Here in Katherine as the tourist season arrives the town is bustling with southerners with their vans and camper trailers to explore what we all take for granted.
The "new normal" we are all experiencing with the pandemic certainly makes the seniors nervous as well as the vulnerable, the people in our nursing homes and front line workers.
This brings me to the vaccination programme that is happening on a Tuesday to Thursday at the old High School building in Second Street.
OTHER NEWS:
Anyone over the age of 16 years can now be vaccinated.
It is imperative that we all line up if we want to have any chance of safe travel again.
The dry season brings all sorts of festivals, shows and entertainment to the Top End. As we get ready for another long weekend the Barunga Festival is on and will be very busy I'm sure due to cancelling last year's event.
A little further south the Finke Desert race is on which is always extremely busy with motorbike enthusiasts from all over Australia wanting to get in on the prestigious race just to say you've completed or given it a go!
Also on this weekend is the Glenti Festival in Darwin with all sorts of amazing Greek food and entertainment. If you choose to stay a little closer to home there are plenty of places to explore and get out and about and soak up the dry season.
Edith Falls is a nice easy drive for a swim and a bite to eat at the café, Cutta Cutta caves if you haven't been I urge you to give them a visit, they are amazing and about 20 minutes from town, our very own Nitmiluk Gorge and there are many other cafes in town and spots on the river to experience with a picnic as well.
