Spread across the Territory's regional centres and communities, the practitioners have recently completed their comprehensive month-long Care and Protection Induction Program in Darwin.

Frontline Child Protection practitioners are part of a dedicated team supporting children and families across the Territory, with over $21 million invested into child protection for the 2021 budget.

Members of the new cohort, in addition to Katherine, will be based in Darwin, Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy, Arafura and Daly River.

"Every child deserves a childhood where they are safe and connected with their culture and identity. We are investing in the most vulnerable children to change their pathways in life," Minister for Territory Families and Urban Housing, Kate Worden said.

Over the past four years there has been a 42 per cent reduction in the number of unique children substantiated as having experienced or being at significant risk of abuse or neglect, and 27 per cent decrease of children placed in out of home care.

Child Protection practitioners work closely with other government, non-government and community agencies to ensure the best outcome for the child and their family.
