Given the time of year, an influx of large vehicles, typically caravans, have been occupying parking spots around the town centre that are designed for regular vehicles.
Multiple residents took to a private social media group to share their frustration, with one person posting "something must be done, this is getting out of control". The post received 107 reactions and 72 varying comments at the time of publication.
According to a Katherine Town Council spokesperson, the issue of congestion has not fallen on deaf ears, with council rangers continuously working with visitors to "direct them to more suitable locations".
"It is fantastic to see Katherine so busy with tourists visiting our town, however it does present some issues when it comes to parking," they said.
While signage is present around town for those with larger vehicles, Council said they will continue to ensure they are improved and visible.
"Council has undertaken an audit of parking signage and whilst there are a large amount of instructional signs, we will continue to ensure it is constantly improved," the spokesperson said.
"In the interim, owners of large vehicles, trucks and caravans are directed to use the parking located at the Lindsay Street Complex, Visitor Information Centre Carpark and surrounds for access at the Eastern end of town or the Railway Terrace Carpark (Cnr Victoria Hwy) and Ryan Park Carpark at the Western end of town."
