An additional COVID-19 exposure site has been identified in Alice Springs.

The new COVID-19 public exposure site includes the Alice Springs Airport on Friday, 25 June between 9am and 4pm (see below)

People who have visited NT public exposure sites are defined as close contacts, causal contacts or low risk contacts and are required to follow a number of health directions including undertaking quarantine and getting tested.

It is important that all people in the Northern Territory check the COVID-19 website and review the list of public exposure sites to make sure you are complying with the health directions.

COVID NEWS:

All people in the Alice Springs Town Council Boundaries that includes the town camps are required to stay in their home or accommodation during the lockdown.

All people in the Greater Darwin area, this includes Darwin, Palmerston, and Litchfield Council areas, and Wagait and Belyuen Shire are still required to stay in their home or accommodation during the lockdown.

Masks MUST be worn at all times when leaving home, including when undertaking any form of exercise.

You can only leave your residence for one of these five reasons:

1. Medical treatment, including COVID testing or vaccination

2. For essential goods and services, like groceries and medications

3. For work that is consideredessential

4. For one hour of outdoor exercise a day within 5 km from your home with one other person who doesn't live with you, or people from your house

5. To provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves.

ALICE SPRINGS

The Alice Springs Airport is an exposure site - but there are different levels of exposure.

If you were at Alice Springs Airport between 9.00am and 4.00pm on Friday the 25th of June, you don't need to do anything right now except stay at home in lockdown, and later today advice will be provided on what you have to do in terms of isolating and testing.

The Health team are now going through a process of refining which areas of the airport are close contact, which areas are casual contact, and which areas are low-risk.

This will determine your risk of exposure. It will determine whether you are under a 14-day stay at home order, whether you need to isolate and get tested, or whether you just have to monitor for symptoms.

Do not go and get tested yet. Please wait until later today to identify which category you are in. This allows priority to be given to high-risk testing first.

DARWIN

The Marrara Drive-Through Testing Site is open 8am -8pm.You can no longer attend the site without an appointment you must book online to arrange your COVID-19 test.

When attending the Marrara Drive-Through Testing Site please ensure you wear a mask, stay in your car and bring photo ID and your Medicare card.

You can also get tested at the Royal Darwin Hospital Pandemic Clinic and the Palmerston GP Super Clinic (Respiratory Clinic).

EARLIER: Alice Springs will go into lockdown at 1pm after a Tanami mine worker who was unlikely to have been highly infectious with COVID-19 spent seven hours in the town's airport last Friday.

The South Australian man, who was travelling back to Adelaide, initially tested negative for the virus but showed symptoms in isolation and has also since tested positive

Four of his five family members have also now tested positive to the highly-infectious Delta variant.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the man mainly spent time in a café and visited bathrooms at the airport. was at the airport between 9am and 4pm on Friday, June 25.

Mr Gunner said the stay-at-home orders applied to the Alice Springs council area, including township communities.

He said people would only be able to leave home for five reasons - medical care, to buy essential items, one hour of exercise a day within a 5km radius of your home, work and to act as a carer.

Masks are now also to be worn.

He said that anybody visiting Alice Springs from outlying communities should remain in Alice Springs and assistance would be provided to get them home.

Mr Gunner said supply chains for medicine and food to communities surrounding Alice Springs would be maintained.

People were also urged not to panic buy in the town, as there was no shortage of food supplies.
