The 2021 Northern Territory Regional Sports Volunteer Awards was held in Katherine on Wednesday, July 15.
Recipient of an award for contributions to the Katherine Swimming Club, Pru Durey said it was a wonderful feeling accepting the award.
"I was very honoured," Ms Durey said.
"Just to be nominated and the people taking their time to nominate you with what you have done. I'm the head coach and I train swimmers from nine to 18, four afternoons a week, it's a great feeling."
Durey has been involved with the club for 19 years and loves teaching the students, but 202 was a difficult year.
"I got into swimming because like a lot of other parents, I had a child that was interested in swimming," Ms Durey said.
"I did some coaching at about 18-19, but then stopped for quite a while. The students were great at complying and adapting to our COVID safe plan. We had limits on lanes, socially distance while swimming, and had a get in, get out training schedule.
"They all did a really good job with a difficult situation.
"I love seeing the kids develop with their swimming techniques, endurance and skills. It's the thing I enjoy most, and not just with swimming. The self discipline, tenacity, these are all great life lessons to have."
