A man has died during the Top End's only ocean swim event over the weekend.

The man, aged in his 60s, died during the Fannie Bay Swim Classic on Sunday morning.
According to a statement from the Darwin Surf Life Saving Club, the man was a "much loved" surf lifesaving member who passed away despite CPR efforts from Lifesavers, bystanders and emergency services.
"Surf lifesaving members immediately went to the assistance of the member and commenced CPR...the member could not be revived and sadly passed away," the statement, released yesterday, said.

NT Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Director of Ambulance Services for St John, Andrew Thomas, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of [the man] during this sad time."
"Instances like this show how our community can work together.
"St John NT acknowledges the skills of the Darwin Surf Life Saving Club members and extends our appreciation to other first responders at the scene."
