The man who helped bring the beloved Pride Festival to Katherine, Ben Herdon, is the latest person to put their hand up to run for Council.
Mr Herdon, who is also the manager of Katherine's Commonwealth Bank, said he has decided to run out of his love for the Katherine Community and his passion for making a difference.
"I've now been living, working, and volunteering in Katherine fulltime for two years. I've fallen in love with the people and town of Katherine," he said.
"I always look for ways to get involved with serving the community. This is a critical time for the community of Katherine, as well as the natural resources around us."
KATHERINE COUNCIL ELECTIONS
The manager of the local Commonwealth Bank said better infrastructure and affordable housing would be among his priorities if elected.
"Infrastructure, facilities, and spaces which are safe and usable for all residents; as well as ensuring we have facilities to meet the needs of visitors," he said when asked what his vision for Katherine was.
"I want to engage with other levels of government to ensure housing is affordable and accessible."
Among his proudest achievements is his work for Katherine's diverse community.
"I value the beauty of Katherine being a melting pot of worldwide cultures, as well as cherishing the cultures of the Jawoyn, Dagoman and Wardaman people.
Mr Herdon said people should vote for him because he would be there to listen.
"The people of Katherine can have confidence that as their mayor or one of their councillors I would be approachable and available to discuss their matters of concern."
"I will bring fresh ideas to the table which are not restrained by unnecessary emotional attachment to the past, while still being able to listen to a diverse range of opinions and views."
