Rolfe's trial was set to start on Monday but was adjourned as the prosecutors for the case are in Covid lockdown in Sydney and were not granted an exemption to travel to the NT.

It will now commence on August 18.

Crown prosecutor Philip Strickland SC told the court on Friday he was willing to do the compulsory 14 days supervised quarantine.

"I am proposing to commence quarantine in Darwin on Monday, this coming Monday, which means I will be out of quarantine on the 16th of August," he said.

Mr Strickland said his instructing solicitor, Sophie Callan SC, would not be able to come and that a prosecutor from Melbourne would appear in her place.

The only proviso...is that I am allowed to board the flight to go to Darwin," Mr Strickland said.

Rolfe's defence lawyer David Edwardson QC, who has been in Darwin for several weeks after travelling from Adelaide for the trial, said he was grateful to Mr Strickland for quarantining.

"We are very grateful to our learned friends for taking that step, we understand it's a big sacrifice," he said.

Rolfe stands charged with the murder of 19-year-old Yuendumu man Kumanjayi Walker in November 2019.
