A planeload of Australian Olympians have arrived in the Top End from Tokyo to quarantine in Howard Springs.
The first charter flight transporting 115 Olympians and support staff back to Australia touched down in Darwin around 5.15 this morning.
The NT News reported that one of the athletes among the cohort was 23-year-old sprinter Rohan Browning, with the ABC reporting that gold medallist swimmers Ariarne Titmus and Emma McKeon were also on board.
More Olympics news:
Other Olympians who arrived in Darwin included Australia's women's rugby sevens team, boxers, cyclists and athletics team members.
All the athletes will now complete 14 days supervised quarantine in Howard Springs.
A Darwin International Airport spokesperson said more Olympians were set to arrive in the coming days.
"Up to 115 Australian athletes were on board this first flight, with a second flight carrying approximately 80 athletes due to land at DIA on 9 August," the spokesperson said.
They said a number of precautions were taken to keep the Olympians separate from the general public.
"All health, security and baggage screening and processing were undertaken by the appropriate local and federal agencies in a secure and separate area on the ground floor of the DIA terminal, before the athletes were transferred to the Howard Springs facility for quarantine," they said.
"Significant works have been completed at the terminal to achieve physical and atmospheric separation of the screening and processing area."
