Mr Sloan was elected for the first time at the Territory election last year for the seat which encompasses parts of the Darwin rural area, extends south through the Daly River region to Timber Creek, and west to remote communities including Wadeye and Peppimenarti.
He said he had made the "difficult decision" to stand down to focus on his health.
"This has been a difficult decision, one that I have taken time to consider as I am fully aware of the implications this will have on the electorate of Daly, the staff in my office, my parliamentary colleagues, the Party and my family," Mr Sloan said in a statement.

"However, due to health reasons, I have reached the point that I have decided to step down to focus on myself and my family as I feel I can't properly represent the people of Daly at this time.
"During my final Parliamentary sittings, I look forward to formally thanking the people of my electorate and recognising all the incredibly hard-working, passionate members of the community who contribute to the Territory's future each and every day."
Opposition leader Lia Finocchiaro said the CLP supports Mr Sloan's decision and that she hopes a new MLA for Daly will be elected as soon as possible.
"It is with deep sadness that I acknowledge the Member for Daly, Ian Sloan's, intention to resign at the next parliamentary sittings due to health reasons," she said.
"Ultimately, the people of Daly must be represented in Parliament as soon as possible and we have asked the Gunner Government to give consideration for a by-election to be held at the earliest available opportunity."
Mr Sloan asked that his and his family's privacy be respected.
