Katherine singer-songwriter Gypsy Schmidt is set to head to one of the most prestigious music schools in the country after winning the NT Country Music Talent Quest.

The 17-year-old took out second prize in the open category of the competition at the Royal Darwin Show late last month, winning a two-week scholarship to work with the best in the business at the Academy of Country Music in Tamworth.
Ms Schmidt said she has been into music since she was a young kid, and is thrilled to get the opportunity to be get her music out there.
"I'll get to work with producers, people in the business, co-write with other songwriters...Expand my musical horizons," she said.

"I want to be a singer-songwriter, that's my dream," she said.
She said she has already found a number of mentors in the Territory music scene including Caiti Baker.
But, the artist she looks up to most is Amy Shark.
"Amy Shark is incredible, I would love to have a carer like hers."
Ms Schmidt will head to Tamworth for her scholarship in January ahead of the famous Tamworth Country Music Festival.
