Katherine Turf Club President Paul Mullins said tickets are selling like hot cakes, with punters and competitors alike travelling to Katherine to take part in the action.
"Ticket sales are going well...it's been very popular" he said.
"This year we've incorporated a new outdoor tent and that sold out before the end of June with about five or six local businesses all tied in together.
"We've got very good nominations through the trainers and owners from Darwin and Alice. There's some who were here before the lockdowns too from interstate."
As always, fashion is also set to be a feature of the day, with Fashions on the Field competitions open in three categories: ladies over 30, ladies over 15 and men over 30.
"We've got some great prizes involved in that," Mr Mullins said.
Mr Mullins said a number of measures had been taken to ensure the event was COVID-safe.
"We've extended the public area by another 10 metres," he said.
"As much as we are lucky up here, you've still got to practice god practice."
The 2021 Katherine Cup Race Day kicks off this Saturday, August 14 at the Jim Jackson Race Course.
