As a member of the local community since 1998, Mr Coburn has seen his fair share of local councils, and said to represent the people of Katherine would be a fulfilling duty.
"I would be proud to represent the people of Katherine," Mr Coburn said.
"Having been here for 20 years and seen a few councils come and go, they've all worked hard and are people who want to contribute to the community and I have that same aim.
"Let's see what we can get done."
Mr Coburn, whose family lived in the area during the early 70s, worked for Travel North upon moving to Katherine, and after 10 years in the tourism industry took up a role in sports administration to lead the town's AFL program.
Now retired, Mr Coburn said this is the time for him to give back to a community who has given him so much.
Katherine has been very good to me so my initial reasoning was that I want to give something back to the town.

With an eye for tourism, Mr Coburn has multiple ideas up his sleeve which he believes will contribute greatly to the region's tourism economy.
In addition to tourism, other priorities for Mr Coburn, if elected, are to improve aspects of the town for its residents.
"Katherine is in a phase of growth and council has an opportunity to push ahead and get things done, and I am keen to be a part of it," Mr Coburn said.

"There are a few big ticket items which I believe Katherine could really benefit from. The town itself would benefit greatly from a heavy vehicle diversion, we need to work towards that.
"There are other issues around the town that I feel passionately about. I'm very passionate about tourism and I really want to see the town beautified, we can do a lot more in that area.
"There are other things like footpaths, bike paths, more sporting fields and things like that which I would be really interested in seeing if I could help develop while on council.
"A lot of these issues have been started, people have talked about them but haven't followed through so I'm really keen to get in there and see what I can do."
