KATHERINE TOWN COUNCIL
In line with the Northern Territory Government's 72-hour lockdown, Katherine Town Council will be closing the following facilities to the public commencing 12pm, August 16, 2021:
- Katherine Civic Centre
- Katherine Public Library
- Katherine Visitor Information Centre (KVIC)
- Katherine Waste Management Facility
- Katherine Aquatic Centre
- Katherine Sportsgrounds
- Katherine Showground
- Katherine Hot Springs
- Adventure Play Park
The Civic Centre will continue customer service via telephone (08 8972 5500) and email (records@ktc.nt.gov.au).
All events run by Katherine Town Council (including the CBD Activation) during the lockdown have been cancelled.
The KVIC can provide customer service via email (visitor@ktc.nt.gov.au).
Council asks to please only contact if your booking is during the lockdown period.
Kerbside collection will continue as normal.
These closures will remain until the lockdown has been lifted.
KATHERINE POLICE
The front counter facilities at the Katherine police station will be closed to the public until further notice.
This is to reduce face-to-face contact and minimise any exposure during the period of the lockdown
Other sites where front counter services has been suspended include
- Darwin Police Station
- Casuarina Police Station
- Humpty Doo Police Station
Police have also set up an operational centre in Katherine during the lockdown.
The Palmerston Police Station will remain operational with front counter opening hours from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. The administration of firearms licensing and related activities will also be conducted from this facility.
The Darwin Watch House will also be closed and the Palmerston Watch House will become the primary facility.
The officers usually rostered to the sections temporarily closed will assist to maintain operational readiness and response.
Those who need to report a non-emergency are encouraged to submit a police report via the 'report a non-emergency' form on https://pfes.nt.gov.au/reportonline. This reporting capability will help the public avoid making unnecessary trips when they need to stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Anyone who is in need of emergency police assistance is urged to call 000 or 131 444.
KATHERINE COURTS
The Katherine courts will be closed from 1pm on Monday, and remain closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at this stage to reopen on Friday morning.
KATHERINE TENNIS
The courts are shut during the lockdown.
MORNING MELODIES
Morning Melodies for seniors at the Katherine Country Club has been cancelled on Wednesday morning.
AFL NT
Following the recent COVID-19 update from the Northern Territory Government and announcement of lockdown restrictions in the Greater Darwin and Katherine regions, below is an update on what it means for AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) competitions and programs:
Big Rivers Football League (BRFL)
BRFL community football matches and training will not take place in the Katherine region until further notice, as per Northern Territory Government restrictions. Umpire training will not take place in the Big Rivers region as per Northern Territory Government restrictions.
Northern Territory Football League (NTFL)
Pre-season training will not take place in the Greater Darwin region until further notice, as per Northern Government restrictions. Umpire training will not take place in the Greater Darwin region as per Northern Territory Government restrictions.
Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL)
BAFL community football matches and training will operate as per usual.
Central Australian Football League (CAFL)
CAFL community football matches and training will operate as per usual.
AFLNT will consult stakeholders in regard to what this means for community football matches fixtured during this period.
Katherine Toyota AFL Live Site Event
An update will be provided this afternoon regarding the Katherine Toyota AFL Live Site event scheduled for Friday 20 and Saturday 21 August 2021.
Cazalys NT Thunder Academy
Darwin based Cazalys NT Thunder Academy training will not take place until further notice. Alice Springs based Cazalys NT Thunder Academy training will operate as per usual. The scheduled Cazalys NT Thunder NAB League Challenge match for this weekend in Darwin has been postponed.
Michael Long Learning & Leadership Centre (MLLLC) Programs
No programs or camps are taking place in Darwin's MLLLC this week.
Remote Projects
The Katherine Remote Community Programs throughout the Big Rivers region have been cancelled.
All other Remote Projects and Programs will operate as per usual. AFLNT are closely monitoring the situations of the nine remote AFLNT serviced locations and will continue to follow advice from the Northern Territory Government, health authorities and Land Councils.
AFLNT Darwin and Katherine Offices
The AFLNT Darwin and Katherine offices are closed until further notice.
