Mr Connop, who was born and bred in the Territory, said he has chosen to run to be a strong voice for the electorate in the upcoming by-election.
"The ALP and CLP governments have ignored the people of Daly for too long," he said.
"There are issues close to their hearts that are pushed to the side, and I will give the people a voice and have their matters heard.
"I'll be held to account for my output on the job and will do what a politician is supposed to do; listen to the people."
OTHER NEWS:
Mr Connop said he has a number of ideas for ways to improve the electorate.
"I have so many things I want to build and develop," he said.
"I want to see a purpose-built health centre for the people of Dundee Beach and surrounding areas, more cyclone shelters in the Daly area, and the Mandorah Jetty fixed amongst many other key issues."
He said he chose to run as an independent because he thinks voters are disenfranchised by the major parties.
"We've dealt with the major parties for decades and it's got us nowhere," he said.
"I'll be held to account for my output on the job and will do what a politician is supposed to do; listen to the people."
The by-election will be held on Saturday September 11 after CLP MLA Ian Sloan announced his resignation due to health reasons last month.
Early voting is already open at voting centres in Darwin and Coolalinga. An early voting centre will open in Berry Springs on September 6.
