Paint your Town Pink is an initiative of the McGrath Foundation in which communities come together to 'Pink Up' - not only to raise funds that support specialist McGrath Breast Care Nurses, but to create a visual show of support for local people going through breast cancer.
"Pink Up Your Town is such a fun initiative to get involved with and you can do so knowing you really are making an impact," Tracy Bevan, McGrath Foundation Ambassador and Director, said.
"Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, so our McGrath Breast Care Nurses are needed more than ever.
OTHER NEWS:
"It is through the support of communities such as Katherine that we're able to continue funding McGrath Breast Care Nurses in areas that need them the most."
Breast cancer is estimated to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with one in seven women diagnosed by the age of 85.
It is estimated that 55 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia each day this year and that is 19,866 women, and 164 men would be diagnosed this year.
Katherine residents are being encouraged to get involved and 'Pink Up' by hosting events, housing donation boxes on countertops, putting on a raffle throughout the month of October or by adding a splash of pink to your shopfront or office to help raise awareness.
