The third annual Katherine High School Industry Forum was held last week, giving students across the region a chance to see what career options were open to them, with some students travelling six hours from Borroloola for the event.
Wurli-Wurlinjang Aboriginal Health Service, Defence Force Recruiting, Katherine Town Council Rangers, NT Police and the Katherine Women's Information and Legal Service (KWILS) were among the 25 exhibitors from local industries.
Katherine High School Industry Engagement Officer Sandy Talbot said the forum helped students see what opportunities were there for them after school.
More news:
"While Katherine is a relatively small town, we are fortunate to have plenty of job opportunities for young people, but sometimes it's not easy for them to know where to look," she said.
"This forum provides them with a chance to have a yarn about jobs that they might not have known existed and they can meet these representatives in a place where they feel comfortable."
And, it wasn't just senior school students getting involved.
"It was fantastic to see so many students excited to engage in discussions about their future and the potential directions they could take. It was particularly great to see our Year 9 students begin to seriously consider their next steps and future aspirations," Vocational Training and Careers Coordinator Sarah Smith said.
"I would like to thank all the exhibitors who took the time out of their day to have discussions about their work and the journey they took to get where they are today."
