Police received reports just before 8pm of a house fire in Coolibah Crescent, and arrived to find the single story dwelling fully engulfed in flames.
A 25-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and remains in custody assisting police with their inquiries.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire so no other properties were damaged.
A Fire Investigator has been sent from Darwin to assess the scene.
"It is a timely reminder for people to ensure that where smoke alarms are fitted, they're tested regularly and have working batteries to avoid a tragic outcome," Constable Kylie Dutton said.
Police are urging anyone who may have mobile phone footage or who may have witnessed anything to make contact on 131 444 or to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
