The Territory Labor Government announced the recipients of grant funding under round five of the Visitor Experience Enhancement Program (VEEP) on Monday.

Eligible businesses are offered funding of up to $50,000 on the basis they provide a matched cash co-contribution to upgrade and improve their visitor experiences.

In the Top End, locals and visitors will enjoy upgraded displays at the Katherine Museum, better seating and shade at the Tiwi Islands Welcome Centre, and a new ablution block for Yarraman Territory.

The Katherine Museum received $36,363 for the infrastructure construction of an agriculture and military machinery display. The much loved community history home officially opened in 1985 and is housed in the original airport terminal built in 1932.

In 2019 community pressure saved the Katherine Museum from sudden closure, and in 2020 it received $4 million to be spent over three years to fund its redevelopment plan to boost the town's tourism potential for decades to come.

Proposed business programs to receive VEEP in Central Australia include improvements to the pool and camp kitchen at the Heritage Caravan Park, a new glider winch for adventure and gliding experience company NT Soaring, and upgrades to the Todd Tavern.

Under this round, Territory businesses will invest more than $2.6 million towards their projects.

To date, the VEEP program has provided more than $7.5 million to 293 businesses through five funding rounds and has attracted more than $17.6 million in private investment.

Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Natasha Fyles said the Territory Labor Government had delivered programs like VEEP and Roadhouse to Recovery to provide opportunities for businesses to enhance their tourism offerings for both visitors and locals.

"We want visitors to have the best possible experience when they holiday in the NT, and these upgrades mean more people will be able to spread the word and recommend the Territory to family and friends," Ms Fyles said.

"VEEP supports our local tourism businesses and creates jobs for the local construction industry and suppliers, providing a flow-on boost to the local economy."
