At a confidential Special Meeting of Council held last Friday, Katherine Town Council resolved to enter into a new three-year management agreement with Belgravia Leisure for the management of the Katherine Aquatic Centre.

The current management contract with the YMCA expired earlier this year and council called for Expressions of Interest, receiving three very high- quality submissions.
The incumbent manager, (Katherine YMCA ) has been waiting since July to find out its fate.

YMCA recreation manager Bronwyn Humphrys said the organisation has had the privilege of managing Katherine Aquatic Centre for the local community for 15 years.
"We have loved teaching children, young people and adults how to swim," Ms Humphrys said.
"We may be putting the Lifeguard uniforms away, but we're not going anywhere.
"You'll still see our smiling faces at Henry Scott Recreation Centre, on the roller skate rink, at Little Mangoes Childcare Centre, and at our youth programs.
"We're committed to Katherine and committed to the Territory."
Katherine Town Council thanked the YMCA and its staff for their valued management services over these years.
Welcoming the appointment of Belgravia Leisure, Katherine Town Council Mayor, Cr Lis Clark acknowledged the important role aquatic facilities and services play in the lives of Katherine residents and visitors and said this appointment will bring a new dimension to the management and use of the Aquatic Centre.
"Council will work with Belgravia Leisure and the YMCA to ensure that existing employees have been offered opportunities to transition employment between the two organisations," she said.
"Belgravia Leisure have committed to employ locally with a target workforce participation of 100 per cent Katherine residents, including a diversity target (ATSI) of 25 per cent."
Belgravia Leisure is an Australian owned and operated leisure management provider has more than 30 years' experience in partnering with 40 Local Government and State Government authorities.
"Together, they manage approximately 180 aquatic, sport, health and wellness facilities across Australia and New Zealand," Cr Clark said.
The new management will commence on Monday, December 13, and the three-year agreement at the facility can be extended by the council for a further 12-month period.
