This visit was intended to meet people face to face and share information about COTA NT's work, specifically its Aged Care Navigator services and Seniors Card program.
Aged Care Navigator services are designed to help people understand how the aged care system, My Aged Care, works.
Aged Care Navigators provides a free, independent and confidential service to older people, their families and carers, on how to apply for assessment with My Aged Care and understanding how the system works.

They can describe the types of subsidised age services available, how to access age services; what supports are available in your area; how to compare services, facilities and prices.
Also explain your rights and responsibilities in receiving services and much more.
Gaining this understanding starts with a simple (and friendly) conversation. Our Navigators can listen and talk to you via the telephone, video conferencing using Telehealth or face-to-face (wherever possible).
It's important to know what your options are. It is all about helping you to remain as independent as possible, safely in your own home and to maintain a health and active life.
As always, prevention is better than cure, being prepared means having more control over your future. The earlier assistance is provided the less likely you are to enter aged care support in a crisis situation.
COTA NT has two Aged Care Navigators on its staff, one based in Darwin and one based in Alice Springs.
Contact COTA NT's Aged Care Navigators by calling 08 8941 1004 during office hours, Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm (except public holidays). Alternatively by email to agedcare_darwin@cotant.org.au or via our website contact form, www.cotant.org.au/contact-us/.
